Calgary

Calgary, Alberta Canada

I drove 242 miles from Fort Steele to Calgary and saw this cool DIVCO milk truck.

In Calgary I stayed for three nights in the parking lot of McMahan Stadium.  This is the home of the Calgary football team.  Fantasy RV brings in electric and water for the RV’s and they built showers in the stadium specifically for the use of their tour participants.  The showers were nice and clean.

We gathered in the evening and had an orientation meeting and were sworn in as honorary Calgarians.

Breakfast:  Our first morning we enjoyed breakfast on the top of the Calgary Tower.  The restaurant rotates while you eat, so you get to see a 360 deg view of the surrounding city.

Our camping location was near the C-Train which is Calgary’s subway type of transportation around town.  We were given passes to use the train as much as we wanted.  The use of the train was a perfect way to attend the Calgary Stampede.  This is also known as the “Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth”,

The Stampede is a big deal in Calgary. Think 1000% bigger than a local county fair that you may have been to. They have a midway with rides, and lots of food booths. Areas which house animals and horses, an art show and quilt competition, musical singers, magic shows, and more.

What are those yellow fields that you see in photos?  Well, I’ll tell you.  Canada is a major producer of Canola Oil. CANola is actually a contraction of CANada, where canola was developed and OLA referring to oil.

As part of our tour, we received tickets to enter the Stampede, and we also received reserved seats to the Chuckwagon Races which included an evening music, light and drone, and firework show, and reserved seats to the Rodeo on the following day.

Chuckwagon Races:  Horse drawn wagons race around barrels and then around the entire horse track.  The drivers of the wagons are competing all week for cash prizes.

After the chuckwagon races were over, they brought in a huge stage and had a show that included singing, dance numbers, acrobatics and concluded with a spectacular firework show.

Videos of the light show and Chuckwagon Race.  The Young Cowboy video is hilarious.  The young man was to try to get onto the horse.

Rodeo:  The rodeo was held during the day.  The cowboys and girls competed in different events such as bull riding, barrel racing, bucking horse riding, and roping calves.  It was a fun day.

Next is Banff, British Columbia, Canada
