Destruction Bay, Yukon, Canada

Today we leave Tok, AK and head to Destruction Bay, Yukon in Canada.

I left at 7:05am and it was 40 degrees out.  I drove 224.8 miles and at 3:00 pm it was 65 degrees and sunny.

This trip included driving on roads that we previously driven.  We also crossed over the border into Canada and went through Customs. Since we entered a new time zone our clocks were moved ahead 1 hour and we are now 3 hours behind east coast time.

This trip took almost 8 hours due to rough roads and road construction.  We drove through about a 10 miles section where we had to wait on a pilot car to escort us through the construction.

Destruction Bay campground was more or less just a big parking lot that had electric.  There was no water or sewer hookups or dump stations.  This is just an overnight stop on our way to Haines, AK.

While in Tok we were asked to bring one canned good per person.   This was because our wagon masters made us dinner of “Stone Soup”.   They combined all of the canned goods that everyone contributed and made a vegetarian version and a chicken version of the stone soup.  This was combined with garlic bread and the soups were very good.

After dinner I talked a few people into walking down to Kluane lake. We were told that this is the largest lake in the Yukon. It was so beautiful!

Next stop on the trip is Haines, Alaska
