Icefields Parkway to Hinton/Jasper

Icefields Parkway

When traveling from Banff to the Jasper National Park / Hinton, area this is the road to take!  What a beautiful drive.  Keep your eyes open as you are likely to see wildlife.  I did see two black bears.   The scenery is beautiful, and you will feel like you are in a painting.  It was unfortunate we had smokey hazy skies, but it was still beautiful!

If you ever find yourself staying in Banff and don’t have a car, be sure to book an all-day trip along this Parkway!

Glacier Walk

Columbia Icefield Discovery Center.  As part of our tour, we walked on a glacier.  We boarded the Ice explorer vehicle that took us out to Athabasca Glacier.  The temperature was in the low 60s. It is very neat to be walking on a glacier.  I even had a drink of glacier water, and it was delicious!

Athabasca Falls

After the glacier walk and on my driving route to Jasper/Hinton KOA, I stopped at Athabasca Falls.  Great views of a powerful river.

Hinton/Jasper KOA

Today from Banff to the KOA, I drove 228.9 Miles.  Because we had the stop at the glacier, I didn’t arrive until around 8 PM.  We stayed here two nights.  The next day I went to Beaver Boardwalk, I visited early in the morning, and it was also very hazy from the wildfire smoke.  I personally did not see any Beavers but someone in our group did and took the photo below.

Later I did some shopping and laundry.  While at the laundromat I met some young folks who were college students, and they were spending their summer planting trees.  They said that they probably plant 1000 trees a day in areas that were affected from logging or wildfires.

Our travel briefing for our next travel day was held in the campground gazebo.

Next stop is Dawson Creek, BC in Canada.
