Juneau Alaska boat excursion

One of our days in Haines we went on a wildlife boat excursion which took us to Juneau, Alaska and also a visit to Mendenhall Glacier.

The boat trip took about 2.5 hours.  On the way we were provided with a muffin, apple and they had coffee and tea available.  On the way back to Haines we were given a bowl of Salmon Chowder which was wonderful.  They had pop and water for purchase and again had coffee and hot tea available.

As it is typical in Alaska the mornings are overcast with some fog and by the afternoon it was sunny.

The captain and his assistant were wonderful, and he pointed out landmarks and talked about the history of the Chilcoot Lake that we were traveling in.  The captain pointed out some wildlife along the way and we also came upon a pod of humpback whales.

When we arrived in Juneau, we had time to get lunch and walk around town.

Juneau is a popular port for cruise ships.  There were 4 or 5 ships in town this day.  I was previously on a cruise ship that stopped here in 2016.  That ship was a princess ship and called the Ruby Princess.

A popular bar in town is called the Red Dog Saloon.  I attempted to stop and have one of their famous shots called the duck fart shot and some lunch, but it was packed.  Instead, I had a look around and visited the gift shop.

After a walk about the town, we met up to board a school bus to head to Mendenhall Glacier.  In 2016 I went on a photography whale watching excursion and visit to the Mendenhall Glacier.  This glacier has been rapidly receding and has really changed since 2016.

After the Mendenhall Glacier visit, we returned to the boat and headed back to Haines.

Next up is a visit to Skagway, AK.
